Community rules

A free university only works if people feel safe enough to think out loud. These rules apply to every room, breakout and live lecture.

  1. 01Adults only in the roomsDiscussion rooms, breakouts and lecture chats are for people 18 and over. Courses and the debate counselor are open to anyone 13 and over.
  2. 02Argue with ideas, never peopleDisagree as hard as you like about ideas. No insults, harassment, threats, or hate aimed at anyone for who they are.
  3. 03No personal dataUse a display name, not your real name. Never post an email, phone number, address, ID, or anything that identifies another person. Posts with contact details are held.
  4. 04Bring sourcesWhen you state a fact, say where it comes from. The AI counselor is held to the same rule. Unsourced claims are opinions; label them that way.
  5. 05No sexual content, no spam, no sellingNo sexual content of any kind, no advertising, no recruiting, no crypto or money schemes, no links posted only to drive traffic. Links are held for review.
  6. 06Nothing illegal or dangerousNo instructions for harming people, no pirated material, no content you do not have the right to share.
  7. 07Not professional adviceNothing here is medical, legal, financial or career advice, from people or from the AI. For your own situation, ask a qualified professional.
  8. 08Hosts are responsible for their streamsLecture hosts must have the right to stream what they show and must follow these rules on the stream as well as in the chat.

How moderation works

  • Every post is screened when it is written: a word and link filter, then an AI check. Posts that break the rules are refused; doubtful ones wait for a person.
  • Anyone can report a post. Three reports from different people hide it until a moderator reviews it.
  • Anyone can block a person: their posts disappear from your screen on that device.
  • Posting is rate-limited per connection. Moderators may remove any post or listing, and may stop anyone from posting.
  • The AI counselor speaks only when asked, when a room is empty, or about once every five posts. Its posts are labeled AI.

To report something urgent, or to ask for your post to be removed, use the Report link on the post, or the contact form in the counselor chat and ask for a person.
